Musician, Composer, Music Teacher Educator
Torben Westergaard
* 9 October 1960
† 28 February 2026
Music connects us to our emotions and fosters our bonds as human beings. It is the most meaningful activity I can engage in, and I have pursued it for over 40 years.
As a musician and composer, I am interested in exploring music in broad, creative, and mindful ways, using the moment as my point of departure.
I have released 20 albums of my compositions, two of which were nominated for DMA jazz awards in 2013 and 2014. Music has taken me to over 20 countries, and I have composed for various ensembles, television series, documentaries, and commercials. From 2011 to 2014, I had the privilege of serving as the musical director for the legendary Danish singer-songwriter and film director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen.
As a long-time music teacher and educator at thenservatories, holding three academic degrees, I possess extensive knowledge and a keen interest in learning, didactics, and communication.
“Torben Westergaard‘s charismatic concoction of Nordic jazz and Argentinean tango just keeps getting stronger and more refined. He brings a melancholy tone to the dance and incites excitable motion out of introspective thoughts”.
